First crop corn in southern Brazil was 30% planted as of late last week compared to 32% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 4% for the week.
Rainfall in southern Brazil has encouraged farmers to plant their first corn crop. In fact, there has been too much rain in Rio Grande do Sul, which has resulted in some localized flooding and there is more rain in the forecast for the state.
Parana - The Department of Rural Economics (Deral) reported that 60% of the first corn crop in Parana has been planted and planting should be complete in about 15 days if the weather continues to cooperate. Farmers in the state are expected to plant 257,000 hectares of first crop corn.
Parana's largest corn crop is the safrinha crop and prospects look good for the crop at the present time. The soybean planting pace in Parana is ahead of average which means that the safrinha corn should be planted within the ideal planting window next January and February. That is important because Parana is the second largest safrinha corn producing state in Brazil after Mato Grosso.
