Brazil Soybean Production to Increase 12.7%, Corn to Increase 3.5%

In their first official estimate of the 2024/25 Brazilian crop production, Conab estimated that Brazil will produce 166.05 million tons of soybeans and 119.74 million tons of corn.

Brazilian farmers are expected to plant 47.33 million hectares of soybeans in 2024/25 (116.9 million acres), which would represent an increase of 2.8%. The nationwide soybean yield is estimated at 3,508 kg/ha (52.2 bu/ac) or an increase of 9.6% compared to last year. The 2024/25 soybean production is estimated at 166.05 million tons, which would represent an increase of 12.7% or 18.6 million tons.

Brazil's 2024/25 corn production is estimated at 119.74 million tons, which would represent an increase of 3.5% or 4.0 million tons. Brazil's first corn crop is estimated at 22.72 million tons, which is down 1.1% from last year or 0.24 million tons. The safrinha corn crop is estimated at 94.63 million tons, which is up 4.8% or 4.38 million tons. Brazil's third corn crop is estimated at 2.38 million tons which is down 4% or 0.10 million tons.

The safrinha corn crop is expected to account for 79% of Brazil's total 2024/25 corn production with the first crop accounting for 18.9% and the third crop accounting for 1.9%.

Dry conditions have delayed the 2024/25 soybean planting in Brazil with 9% planted as of late last week compared to 17% last year. Soybean planting is accelerated in southern Brazil and lagging in central Brazil. Soybeans in Mato Grosso are 9%, while in Parana, the soybeans are 36% planted.

Conab is estimating that Brazil will export 105.54 million tons of soybeans in 2025 and 34 million tons of corn.
