2024/25 Argentina Soybeans 3% Planted

Rain over the weekend favored northeastern La Pampa and central Buenos Aires. This week, rain should favor central and eastern Buenos Aires with light to moderate showers across the rest of the region. The forecast for next week is again calling for light to moderate showers across most of the region. The rainfall in Argentina has been enough to sustain the recently planted crops, but not enough to recharge the soil moisture.

As farmers finish their corn planting, they are switching over to soybean planting. Soybeans in Argentina were 3.3% planted as of late last week with most of the planting in the core production areas of central Argentina.

The 2024/25 Argentina soybean acreage is estimated at 17.5 million hectares (43.2 million acres), which is up 1.0 million hectares or 6.6%, but the soybean acreage is still highly speculative due to uncertainty concerning the corn acreage. Leafhopper pressure on corn is less than anticipated, at least for the time being, and that might encourage farmers to plant more late corn than what had been anticipated with less switching to soybeans.
