Conab Increases Brazil Soy Production Slightly, Lowers Corn

In their December Crop Report, Conab increased the 2024/25 soybean production by 70,000 tons and they lowered the corn production by 180,000 tons. The 2024/25 Brazil soybean production is now estimated at 166.21 million tons compared to 166.14 million in November. The corn estimate is now 119.63 million tons compared to 119.81 million in November.

Conab is estimating that Brazilian farmeres planted 47.36 million hectares of soybeans in 2024/25 (116.9 million acres), which is up 2.6% compared to last year. The nationwide soybean yield is estimated at 3,509 kg/ha (52.2 bu/ac), which is up 4.6 bushels compared to the problematic 2023/24 crop. Soybean production is estimated at 166.21 million tons, which is up 18.5 million tons or 12.5% compared to 2023/24.

Brazil's 2024/25 corn production is estimated at 119.63 million tons, which is up 3.9 million tons or 3.4% compared to 2023/24. The December estimate is down 180,000 tons compared to November due to a lower estimate for the first corn crop. Brazil's first corn crop is estimated at 22.61 million tons, while the safrinha crop is estimated at 94.63 million tons (unchanged from November), and the third crop is estimated at 2.38 million tons (unchanged from November).

The first corn crop now represents 18.8% of Brazil's total corn production with the safrinha crop representing 79.1% and the third crop representing 1.9%.
